Jack Sparrow

Little is know of Jack Sparrow in his younger days. There is much speculation. One even wonders if he uses his real name. With luck we shall find an answer to this upon the release of the third and likely final installment of Pirates of the Caribbean. What is known of him is simple and true to light the fact that he is indeed a good man, though he would rather be thought a scoundrel.

Some may be surprised to know that prior to becoming captain of The Black Pearl, Jack was captain of a ship called the Wicked Wench. This ship was sailed under employment of the East India Trading Company. After refusing to complete and assingment, Lord Cutler Beckett sanctioned the torching and sinking of the vessel and branded Jack a pirate. Jack then petitoned Davy Jones to retrieve his ship that he then rechristened as The Black Pearl.

Jack was captain fo The Black Pearl for two years before he was horribly mutinied upon by his first mat, Barbossa. Not much is known of what happened to him during the next ten years before his appearance in Port Royal. One can only guess, al though we do know that impersonation of clergyman sdid take place during this time as well as a long list of other charges.

Elizabeth Swann

In Truth, even less is known of Miss Swann’s past. She sailed from England at a young age with her father who was to become governor of Port Royal. Even then it was obvious that she was greatly fascinated by pirates. Most likely giving more than one governess fits over the topic.

She is well acquainted with many pirate stories, and it is assumed that she is aware of many published misadventures of one Captain Jack Sparrow, but how much on that subject, it fails to be shown. Miss Swann also knows the Pirates’ Code very well, possibly even better than many a pirate captain. This is evident in her automatic use of the word “parley” in such a rash manner.

Elizabeth and Jack

It all started with a corset that was too tight. Elizabeth was over looking the ocean with James Norrington, during his attempt at a marriage proposal. A combination of the heat and her inability to breathe properly from the corset caused her to faint. In fainting she fell over the side of the wall and off the cliff at the edge of the fort. In the mean time Captain Sparrow was occupied in bamboozling the two soldiers in charge of watching The Interceptor. He saw the splash and assumed what had happened. How? We shall never know. He is after all Captain Jack Sparrow, and therefore a great mystery. None the less, in a brilliant display of athleticism, he swan dives in to save her and this is the first meeting of the two characters. Both are soaking wet and Elizabeth is in nothing but her shift.

More to come….
